CU finished strong in this year’s RecycleMania Competition! In the Grand Champion Diversion Rate competition CU placed 12th (out of 45 universities) with a 32.53 percent diversion rate. Compared to last year, we saw a 14.85 percent increase in recycling over the 10 weeks of RecycleMania! CU Buffs recycled 495,857 pounds of paper and 73,769 pounds of co-mingled containers during RecycleMania! CU placed 6th in the Waste Minimization competition (out of 43 universities). And 15th in the Per Capita Paper competition by recycling 13.94 pounds of paper per person over the past ten weeks. For more information on how CU ranked in each competition click here. The environmental benefits were significant. The thousands of individual actions led to these conservation success: RM06 Totals (pdf). CU Recycling is participating in RecycleMania 2006, a friendly 10-week competition between top recycling programs in the United States. More than seventy colleges and universities are competing this year to see who can collect the largest amount of recyclables from their campuses from January 29th through April 8th. Measurements are reported on a weekly basis. Click here to see our place. The winning university will win the trophy on the left, along with national media recognition and "bragging rights." CU placed 9th in RecycleMania 2005 by diverting 30.37% from the landfill by recycling. Unfortanately, CSU beat CU coming in at 7th place. We are determined to BEAT them this year!
