Scrape Your Plate Day

When: Wednesday, 2/25 for Lunch and Dinner
Where: All Dining Halls on campus
    - Libby
    - Farrand
    - Sewall
    - Kittridge Commons
    - Darley Commons
Who: Everyone who eats at the Dining Halls on campus

As CU Dining Services composts the food waste from the Dining Halls on a daily basis, it happens behind the scenes by the Dining Staff.  Each year, over 120 TONS of compost is collected from the Dining Halls.  This food waste is diverted from landfills, sent to an industrial composting facility, and then turned into nutrient rich soil that can then be used back on the campus grounds.

Scrape Your Plate is designed to raise awareness about 3 main topics:
- Composting IS happening in the Dining Halls
- Only take what you need.  Reduce your food waste in the first place
- Composting can help reduce climate change: Less food waste in landfills = less methane gas in the atmosphere = less global warming = less climate change

Be ready to Scrape Your Plate at a dining hall near you!

Along with having fun with recyclables, people will be able to win great prizes.  Green Guru, the main sponsor of the Recycling X Games, will be providing the Grand Prize to the person who scores the highest in all the games.  Green Guru demonstrates "Close the Loop" recycling by reusing waste materials to create stylish, functional, and practical products.  Check out the Green Guru website for more info about their products and "Close the Loop" recycling.

The Grand Prize will be: The Vulcar (pictured below)

Various other prizes will be given for First and Second place of each game.
