To celebrate America Recycles Day and to inform University of
Colorado off-campus residents of the benefits and importance of
recycling, the CU Recycling’s “Green Teams” will
be distributing recycling information to homes in the Hill and Goss
Grove neighborhoods on Saturday, November 15 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
The Green Teams and volunteers will go house to house with information
listing the materials appropriate for recycling pick-up in Boulder,
and a list of locations to drop off materials that cannot be recycled
at home. In addition, the Green Teams will provide residents with
information on how to get recycling collection at their homes, and
how to request more recycling bins.
“The Green Teams pride themselves on being able to reach
out to student households and give them the info they need to reduce
waste and recycle. We expect to help nearly 1500 households to improve
their recycling habits – habits today’s students will
take with them throughout their lives where ever they live,”
explains Marna Hibberd, student coordinator of the Green Teams.
America Recycles Day will be celebrated nationwide on Saturday,
November 15. In the city of Boulder, recycling and composting diverts
49 percent of total the total waste from landfills, and 54 percent
of households use just one 32-gallon trash can or less per week.
Recycling is considered to be one of the biggest environmental successes
of the late twentieth century by the EPA.
The Green Teams are a partnership between CU Recycling and the
City of Boulder.
Volunteers are still needed to help with this effort. Meet at
the CU Environmental Center (UMC 355) at 2:00pm for lunch and training.
Volunteers will then spend one to two hours distributing information.
